Spears

The Spears family arrived in Angelina County shortly before the Civil War from Jones County, Mississippi along with the Parker family. Amos and Frances Spears initially settled near Zavalla, but they moved to Lufkin when the railroad arrived. One of Amos' sons, Ben, settled at Hohall and ran a store there. Ben's son Jim ran a store there for some time but moved to Burke and bought the Smith service station in the late 1930s. He moved te station to U. S. 59, and it became the largest grocery store and gas station in Burke.

Jim married Eunce Fay Williams, daughter of Ed Williams.
