Courtney Family

The Courtneys of Burke all descend from Ruben W. and Georgia Ann Courtney. Ruben was born in Simpson Co. Mississippi. Until after 1900 the Courtneys lived in Polk County. In 1910 and 1920 they lived at Burke. Ruben died in 1920 and is buried at Damascus Cemetery in Polk County. According to his grave marker, Ruben was a minister of the gospel.

Ruben and Georgia had several children, including:

One of Vinson's sons, Luther, ran a store on old Texas 35 on the south end of Burke. The store was purchased by Linval Campbell and moved to new U. S. 59.
